McCain Floats New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo As SEC Chair

Andrew M. Cuomo, the attorney general of New York State, has been getting a lot of attention on Wall Street lately, making comments that liken short-sellers to "looters after a hurricane" and extracting big settlements from financial firms that sold auction-rate securities.

In doing so, he's apparently also caught the eye of John McCain, the Republican nominee to be the next president.

As reported on our sibling blog, The Caucus, Mr. McCain told "60 Minutes" Sunday night that if elected, he would consider making Mr. Cuomo -- a Democrat who was the secretary of housing in the Clinton administration -- the head of the Securities and Exchange Commission.
