Senator John McCain, who had previously said that he would be behind a prisoner exchange of POW Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl, now says, "This decision to bring Sgt. Bergdahl home--and we applaud that he is home--is ill-founded, it is a mistake, and it is putting the lives of American servicemen and--women at risk."
McCain described the Taliban prisoners as "wanted war criminals...supposedly guilty of murdering thousands of Shi'ite Muslims."
Four months ago, McCain had a somewhat different notion about a Bergdahl exchange saying that, "this idea is for an exchange of prisoners for our American fighting man. I'd be inclined to support such a thing, depending on the details."
Today McCain's office clarified what he meant by "details."
"While it is no question that we would have wanted Bergdahl home, we should have considered other options than these war criminals as assets in the trade."
McCain's office provided a list of possible prospects...
