Knoxville, Tenn. resident James Davis Wilson went into a rage in February of 2010 when the sundae he ordered at McDonald's was served with hot fudge on the bottom. He later punched an employee in the face in an argument stemming from the perceived injustice.
Earlier this week, he was found guilty of misdemeanor assault and disorderly conduct. On top of a $1,050 fine, he also faces the possibility of a year in jail.
For the record, McDonald's sundaes usually cost around $1.
Here's Wilson's defense of his actions, as told to the jury at the Knox County Criminal Court:
"The food appeared to be right, but the dessert, it had chocolate on the bottom ... The hot fudge should be on top. It freezes up when you get fudge on the bottom of it. I asked them to redo it."
Assistant manager Brad Skelton told the court Wilson wanted to be charged 10 cents less -- the price of a "plain sundae" without fudge -- but the two argued before Skelton relented and gave Wilson back his dollar. Skelton then followed Wilson to the exit to ensure he left the premises when Wilson struck Skelton in the face. At the trial, Wilson claimed Skelton had hurled a racial epithet at him.
Jurors didn't buy Wilson's defenses, however, and found him guilty. His sentencing is scheduled for September 27.
