Meet The Break-Out Stars Of The Met

With every new season at The Metropolitan Opera comes a fresh batch of break-out stars, belting their way to the leading roles of infamous operas like Verdi's "Aida" and Thomas Adès' "The Tempest". This year is no different, as the 2012-2013 calendar ushers in the debut performances of five emerging artists -- Liudmyla Monastyrska, Kristine Opolais, Elza van den Heever, Alek Shrader, and Janai Brugger.

Spanning hometowns in Ukraine, Latvia, South Africa and the U.S., the group of up-and-coming opera singers will be premiering their talents in some of the most renown performances this year. Including "Aida" and "The Tempest", the group will also be featured in "La Rondine", "The Barber of Saville", "Turandot", and "Maria Stuarda".

Monastyrska and company will join the ranks of Met veterans like Anna Netrebko, who kicked off this year's opera line-up with her role as Adina in Bartlett Sher's staging of L'elisir d'Amore. The newcomers have the opportunity to broadcast their talents to a farther-reaching audience this season as well, as "The Met: Live in HD" continues to stream the institutes stagings online.
