Meeting Malala: A Student Reflects on the Best Day Of Her Life

In a rousing speech last Friday at the UN in New York, Malala Yousafzai addressed more than 500 young leaders from around the world at the UN Youth Takeover.

Just a day earlier, I had posted a blog here about Malala Day, which was shared on the Varkey GEMS Foundation facebook page.

Soon after, we received a comment from Zainab Shaukat Ali, a 15-year-old student from GEMS Wellington Academy in Dubai. She had read my blog post and wanted to share her story about meeting her hero, Malala.

Zainab, a recipient of the Shaikha Fatima bint Mubarak Award for Excellence, was recently invited by the Pakistan Ambassador to the UAE, to meet Malala at a private event held in Abu Dhabi.

Noted for her commitment to global education volunteer projects -- including those of our Foundation - Zainab had the chance to share her experiences with Malala.
