Meghan McCain's Infinite Playlist

Meghan McCain's Infinite Playlist

As many of you no doubt know, Senator John McCain's daughter Meghan has turned her father's campaign into something of a hobby to build a blog around, and one of the things she frequently offers up are selections from her iPod to frame the events of the day. We'd sort of taken our eye off parsing Meghan's playlist for campaign insights, but Matt Yglesias directs us to this item on Pitchfork, which found the would-be Presidential daughter sending mixed messages by anointing Stereolab's "Ping Pong" as the song of the day for September 29, 2008 - the day the House failed in their first attempt to pass the bailout package, sending the Dow Jones Industrial Average plummeting 777 points.

A selection of the lyrics:

It's alright right 'cos the historical pattern has shown

How the economical cycle tends to revolve

In a round of decades three stages stand out in a loop

A slump and war then peel back to square one and back for more

Bigger slump and bigger wars and a smaller recovery
Huger slump and greater wars and a shallower recovery

You see the recovery always comes 'round again
There's nothing to worry for things will look after themselves
It's alright recovery always comes 'round again
There's nothing to worry if things can only get better

There's only millions that lose their jobs and homes and sometimes accents
There's only millions that die in their bloody wars, it's alright

It's only their lives and the lives of their next of kin that they are losing
It's only their lives and the lives of their next of kin that they are losing

Things didn't get much better a day later with the choice, "Good Souls" by Starsailor.

Feel sick after every meal
I'd say 'cos I know
The life from your burning wheel
Won't wane

Sleep
I sleep every day
Wipe the cobwebs away
I need to be loved
Christ
I'm out of my mind
I need to be loved
I need to be loved

Yeesh. Daddy issues, much? Luckily, that song puts Meghan's eyes firmly on the prize: "One good day of the week, and I'll be up again. One good day of the week, I'll be higher than the government."

And now I'm bored again, with McCainBlogette, the end.
