Things are starting to get very interesting in the world of smartphones. No, I am not talking about the very high-end, which is dominated by Apple, Samsung and LG - I am talking about the middle ground. There are millions of people who want many of the features of the high-end phones, but don't have $700-$800 to spend.

To see what features, tech and design you could get for less than half the price of a flagship Samsung or Apple we decided to test out the Meizu M3 Max.

While Meizu is not well known in the United States, it is the 5th largest phone manufacturer in China. I know what you are thinking, a $280 Meizu M3 Max, with 6" screen, must be of cheap build quality and have sluggish performance.

Well, watch our full video review of the Meizu M3 Max and I think you will be surprised at what we found -

Meizu M3 Max Delivers High End Features, Without The High End Price Tag

As the video shows, the Meizu M3 Max is one impressive, sub $300 phone. No, it will not compete with the very best that Samsung and Apple have to offer, but it is surprisingly not that far behind...except on price.

Here are some of the key features of the Meizu M3 Max -

  • Helio P10 Processor, 8 Core Processing Power
  • 6" Full HD Screen with PPI of 368
  • 4100mAh Battery
  • Fast Charging, 45% Charge in 30 Minutes
  • A 13MP Back Camera and A Front-Facing 5MP Camera
  • 3GB RAM 64GB Internal Storage
  • mTouch Fingerprint Sensor, Unlock With Your Fingerprint
  • Full Metal Body
  • Runs Android 6.0
  • Micro SD Slot to Expand Storage to 128GB

Interestingly, some of these features are even better than the high-end phones from Apple and Samsung. In particular the 4100mAh battery and the Fast Charge capability put this phone right at the top in terms of power and speed to recharge.

Do You Need An Inexpensive Phablet?

If you have the money to buy a top of the line Samsung or Apple phone, it is unlikely you will have much interest in the Meizu M3 Max. On the other hand, if the idea of having a Phablet (phone and tablet) with a beautiful screen, elegant design, respectable processing power and a huge battery for under $300 appeals to you, the Meizu M3 Max is an excellent choice.
