Melanie Griffith Rips 'Sh-tty, Stupid, Superficial' Hollywood

'The Scripts Are So Sh-tty And Stupid And Superficial'

Melanie Griffith has had enough with Hollywood, which she says tosses her nothing but "sh-tty," "stupid" and "superficial" opportunities.

The tough talk came in an interview with Fox as part of Griffith's promotional efforts for "Dark Tourist," a movie which is presumably excepted from Griffith's "sh-tty" diagnosis of the moving picture industry. According to Griffith, it's nearly impossible for a woman her age (56) to get a decent gig.

“It is what I never thought would happen when I was in my 20s and 30s, hearing actresses bitch about not getting any work when they turned 50," she said. "Now I understand it, it is just different. In a lot of ways, [Hollywood] is a very superficial place. It is all about youth and beauty, for women anyway. You just have to keep biting and pushing your way through, doing theater. I believe in just being really good and working on my craft which is how I started in the first place. I really like that as opposed to the fame part of it.”

That's not all she had to say: "In this day and age ... most of the scripts are so sh-tty and stupid and superficial. It’s not that I get that much stuff anymore."

Griffith added that she reads the material her famous husband, Antonio Banderas gets offered. The actress is heavily involved in politics, and recently revealed what it was like to host a fundraiser for Barack Obama in an appearance on "Jimmy Kimmel Live." "We had to do things like, go around to the neighbors and tell them that the president was coming, and could we maybe use your backyard for some spies, that, I guess, that are gonna be back there?" Griffith said. "To protect the president.”

Stresses of luxury aside, the couple seemed in good spirits on Griffith's recent birthday, walking hand in hand in Marbella.
