PHOTOS: Melissa Gilbert Goes From Brat Pack to Dancing Queen

When Melissa Gilbert beat out hundreds of other child actresses in 1973 for the role of Laura Ingalls Wilder on "Little House on the Prairie," the redhead cemented her role as a TV icon, forever to live on through syndication of the beloved series and countless other made-for-TV programs. Throughout the '80s, Gilbert also scored the part of "Brat Pack" heartthrob Rob Lowe's real-life girlfriend and fiancée. Although the couple eventually broke-up, the actress has continued to keep up a busy career and love life, divorcing twice since then and serving two terms as Screen Actors Guild president.

As for her style, the actress and older sister of Sara Gilbert has progressed since her early days of bouncy hair and over-sized tops. Gilbert's mature, streamlined look usually consists of monochromatic suits and lady-like dresses. Her stint on season 14 of "Dancing With the Stars," however, has brought out a particularly adventurous side to her style, allowing her to show off her nearly-50-year-old body with sexy, sequined mini-dresses.

To celebrate Gilbert's 48th birthday on May 8th, take a look back at her style. Which look is your favorite?
