Melissa Leo As Mags? 'The Hunger Games: Catching Fire' May Cast Oscar Winner In Key Role [UPDATE]

Consider! Melissa Leo Headed To 'Hunger Games'

Consider this: 51-year-old actress Melissa Leo is reportedly the frontrunner to play 80-year-old Mags in "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire." According to Variety, Leo would possibly join Tony Shaloub and Sam Clalflin in the highly anticipated blockbuster sequel.

Whether Leo will be made up to look older or the character will be aged down is unclear, but the 29-year age difference between actress and character are hard to ignore.

UPDATE, 8/2: As just announced by Lionsgate, Lynn Cohen will play Mags in "Hunger Games: Catching Fire." The veteran actress played Magda in "Sex and the City" and "Sex and the City 2," and Golda Meir in "Munich." Sorry, Melissa Leo fans! The original article continues below.

EARLIER:

As for the other future Tributes: Tony Shaloub is on the short list to play Beetee, a bespectacled former Hunger Games winner from District 3 who earns the nickname Volts. He plays a major role in the Quarter Quell alongside Wiress, another District 3 winner. That role was filled earlier on Tuesday by Amanda Plummer.

Claflin would play the biggest of the three roles -- fan-favorite Finnick Odair. Zap2it.com also reported that Claflin -- who appeared in this summer's "Snow White and the Huntsman" -- was up for the role of Finnick, but Lionsgate told HuffPost Entertainment that it would not confirm or deny any casting rumors.
