WASHINGTON -- Just call Melvyn Wilson "Mr. Lucky." The retired postal worker and Woodbridge, Va., native just won the lottery for the fourth time.
The Virginia Lottery announced Tuesday that Wilson, 72, was the $500,000 winner of its Millionaire Mania scratch-off game. He had previously "hit the lottery three times in 10 months," reports The Washington Post: "$500,000 in November 2004, $25,000 in March 2005, and then $1 million from a scratch-off bought at a Woodbridge gas station in September 2005."
Wilson's latest $500,000 payout was second prize in the game. The $2 million top prize remains unclaimed.
Wilson claims that his luck comes from being in the right place at the right time.
It's unknown whether anyone had ever hit three six-figure jackpots before in Virginia Lottery history, but Wilson isn't America's first four-time lottery winner. Stanford University professor Joan Ginther won almost $21 million in four lottery jackpots from 1993 to 2010.
