For many, Memorial Day weekend is a time for barbecues and beach trips, complete with an extra day off to celebrate the symbolic start of summer. For others, the weekend has also become a time to spruce up your home, clean out your closet and install the air conditioner.
Spending the weekend doing chores might not be the most fun and exciting option, but that doesn't mean it's all for naught. Beside the weed-free garden and the squeaky-clean patio furniture, checking off your to-do list has a surprising health benefit: You'll burn calories while you work. Maybe not as many as you'd burn in a yoga class or on a five mile run, but every little bit counts! And as the saying goes, no matter how slow you go, you are still lapping everybody on the couch!
Click through the slideshow below for some of the common chores you might find on your to-do list for this weekend and how many calories you can burn checking it off. Then tell us in the comments what your healthy plans are for Memorial Day weekend. (All calorie counts are estimates based on a150-pound person, and will vary with intensity, body composition and weight.)
