When you think of mental illness, what's the first thing that comes to mind?
It's likely not your best friend, a popular singer, your teacher or the neighbor you babysit. But mental health conditions don't discriminate based on celebrity, gender, age or any other factor. Approximately one in four people globally will experience a mental health issue at some point in their life. That makes it highly likely you know someone with a mental health condition.
Despite mental health disorders being so common, negative stereotypes about people with mental illness still persist in today's culture. But a Twitter hashtag is here to alleviate some of those falsities.
On Thursday, #WhenIThinkOfMentalIllness started trending on the popular social media site. The answers are not only on point, they're a reminder for people dealing with mental illness that they are certainly not alone in their experience.
