A Look At The Search For MH370

More than 16 months after a Malaysian Airlines jet vanished, a tantalizing clue washes ashore.

Malaysian authorities said Thursday they were "almost certain" a piece of an airliner wing that washed ashore on Reunion Island, east of Madagascar in the Indian Ocean, came from a Boeing 777 -- the model of a Malaysian Airlines plane that vanished on March 8, 2014.

The discovery may be a huge step for authorities and family members of the passengers aboard flight MH370 seeking answers to one of the biggest mysteries in aviation history.

Take a look at some of the major events in the search for MH370 in the timeline below.

CORRECTION: An earlier version of the timeline placed one event a year too late. The timeline has been modified to reflect that Australia announced on April 7, 2014 that a vessel had detected two 'pings' in the Indian Ocean.
