I know it may seem that I've been MIA for the last year. Not from everyone, but definitely from The Huffington Post. And though I was "missing in action," I definitely wasn't "missing THE action."
In early 2010, I started work on something that was a truly amazing experience. I was part of a junior committee, helping to raise funds for "The Race to Erase MS." As some of you might know, the Nancy Davis Foundation hosts a celebrity gala every year to raise money, used for research to find a cure for Multiple Sclerosis. Last year, in addition to her annual gala, Nancy decided to put together a second, somewhat smaller event for kids. To make this possible, Nancy wanted young people to help organize it. A good friend of mine, and a family friend to Nancy, chose myself and two other friends to help make this benefit more "teenage friendly." Although it was a stressful few months of planning, the turnout in May was insane. I'm so glad I was a part of it.
Another reason I haven't been blogging is because I've been busy rehearsing with my band since late last summer. Our first show was in early November at the Whisky A Go Go on Sunset Blvd. in L.A.. It was my first performance as a "solo" artist, if that's how you say it, and it was, to say the least, nerve-racking. I walked on stage with my hands shaking, my legs almost buckling, but ended up having a lot of fun. My band is amazing. They helped me through everything, always making sure to have what I needed when I needed it. On top of that, they're great musicians. I mean, GREAT! We performed 8 songs, but it felt like two. The music is just so easy to get into, the time flew right by.
For our next performance, which happens to be this Saturday, Feb. 5th, we've added songs and changed some things around. It's going to be at the Cat Club, right next to the Whisky. And I'm very excited.
So that's the past year in a nutshell... or in about 25 sentences. It's probably been much more exciting than I've made it seem, but trust me, it's been a ride! (Not a bad ride, there are NO bad rides in my book.)
