We know, we know: that hotel robe is just soooo soft and comfy. And according to a new survey, many of you just shove it in your luggage and make a break for the hotel lobby, trying to sign your room receipt before a hotel maid discovers what's missing.
In Living Social Travel Escapes' look at the guesting theft habits of 20 major American cities, it turns out Miami owns the hightest rate of hotel kleptos: 52 percent of 305 residents said they had stolen items from a hotel in which they had stayed.
The national average for five-finger discounts -- which factors in the sticky fingers of Chicago, Los Angeles, Denver, New York City, and Washington, D.C., among other metro areas -- is 37 percent.
Maybe Miamians are just more honest about their crimes? Practice, as they say, makes perfect.
The survey also asked what cities what they take when they do. Nationally, 28 percent of thieving guests take towels, followed by hot ticket items like bathrobes, batteries, pillows, remote control, sheets, Bibles and umbrellas.
Of the criminally-minded Miamians, 37 percent steal towels, 8 percent take bath robes, 7 percent grab bedsheets, and 6 percent nab the remote control.
