LOOK: Local App Turns Selfies Into Art

Where else but the vainest city in America to give rise to an app that encourages others to turn you into the Mona Lisa?

Enter Sktchy, the awesome new app created by Beached Miami blog co-founder Jordan Melnick, who also organized Sketchy Miami, a local community art project with the goal to create an art portrait of every person in Miami.

With the app, Melnick has his eyes on the world outside of Miami as anyone with a smartphone can upload a picture of themselves, and anyone, not just artists, can sketch a portrait inspired by that photo.

Just in the first few days of the app's launch, artists from as far as China, Russia, Spain, and Italy submitted more than 800 original portraits. Not bad for a concept that started out as a community art project in Miami.
