Michael Bennet Ad Hits Ken Buck On Reproductive Rights

On Friday, Colorado Senator Michael Bennet released his latest campaign commercial, which hits his opponent, Republican Ken Buck for his stances on reproductive rights.

The ad features a Denver ob/gyn expressing her view that "Ken Buck is just too extreme for Colorado" because of his opposition to abortion (even in the case of rape and incest) and his support for Colorado's "personhood" amendment, which would define life as beginning at conception.

Much of Bennet's strategy thus far been predicated on painting Buck, who captured the Republican nomination behind the support of Tea Party groups, as an out-of-touch extremist. Bennet's last ad ripped Buck for calling Social Security "a horrible policy," and suggesting that the Department of Education is unnecessary.

Buck, for his part, has stood by his conservative stances on reproductive rights and gay marriage, but has not made them a central theme of his campaign. His campaign has tried to steer discussion toward economic issues.

"Ken is going to Washington D.C. to fight runaway spending and create jobs, and that's what his campaign has been all about," Buck spokesman Owen Loftus told the Grand Junction free press when pressed on his boss's stance on birth control.

National polls have shown that abortion ranks low on the list of voter concerns heading into November.
