There was perhaps no more exciting TV event this year than the return of "Arrested Development."
But when the previously canceled Fox series came back from the TV graveyard more than seven years later for a fourth season on Netflix, the fan and critical response was mixed, to say the least.
HuffPost TV critic Maureen Ryan, for example, noted that "most of the season reeks of flop sweat." She added that "watching Season 4 of 'Arrested Development' is like meeting a friend after you've spent a decade apart ... Something that once felt effortless now reeks of frantic, misdirected effort, and all the flailing attempts to connect the dots of the story mainly serve as a reminder of how little structural complexity matters if the characters, the tone and ultimately the magic get lost in the shuffle."
When HuffPost Live asked Michael Cera, who plays George-Michael Bluth on "Arrested Development," what he thought of the reaction, he said, "I wasn't really surprised because I didn't really have any expectations of how people were going to react to it. I think it's a strange thing, bringing something back that already has a fanbase built in. It's a specific kind of challenge ... But I personally really liked it."
Before the Netflix premiere, Cera told MTV News that "Arrested Development" Season 4 was "one of [his] favorite seasons." "I love it, and I think Mitch [Hurwitz, the creator of 'Arrested Development'] is really good at living up to expectations. He set out to do this really ambitious thing. It's structured in a very ambitious way. I think he pulled it off. It was really impressive to watch, and he kept it together the whole time."
As for more "Arrested Development" -- either on Netflix or as a feature film -- Cera told HuffPost Live, "If there are any discussions like that, I haven't been a part of them yet ... Maybe there's a plan to continue it at some point."
Earlier, Cera told HuffPost that the Netflix season was structured to set up a possible future movie. "I think the series, story-wise, cues up a movie nicely. I'd also be game to do another season. I think it works really well episodically, this show. So that would be fun too. But I do think it should continue, because there are a few things really nicely set-up. We'll see. I don't really know what would dictate that. Probably whether or not there was money for it."
