Michael Douglas, Catherine Zeta Jones Raising Money For Landmine Removal...

Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta Jones are spearheading a new effort in New York City to raise awareness and funds for landmine clearance. On April 4, they will join Kofi Annan at the United Nation at the first NYC based "Night of a Thousand Dinners" to raise awareness for the cause. Celebrity Chefs Dante Boccuzzi (Aureole), Anita Lo (Annisa), Wayne Nish (March), Francois Payard (Payard) and Cyril Renaud (Fleur De Sel) are preparing the multi-course meal.

According to Adopt-a-Minefield, the United Nations Association of the USA landmine clearance program that is sponsoring the evening, there are between 45 and 50 million landmines in the ground in one-third of the world's nations. Landmines are indiscriminate weapons that maim or kill 15,000 to 20,000 civilians every year. They cost as little as $3 to produce, but as much as $1000 to remove.

This year's dinner, which will coincide with dinners around the globe, is the first major event in New York City, building on the organization's annual event in Los Angeles, which is spearheaded by its goodwill ambassadors Paul McCartney and Heather Mills.
