Michael Douglas Totally Blew His First Chance With Catherine Zeta-Jones

She really wasn't a fan of his cheesy chat-up line.

Michael Douglas has revealed how his initial attempt at wooing his now-wife, Catherine Zeta-Jones, didn’t go exactly to plan.

The Hollywood legend recounted on “The Jonathan Ross Show” the moment that he told the Welsh star that he would be the father of her children — within just half an hour of first talking to her.

It sounded good,” said Douglas, in footage due to be aired in the United Kingdom on Saturday night.

But Zeta-Jones wasn’t impressed.

“She said, ‘You know, I’ve heard a lot about you and I’ve seen a lot about you and I think it’s time that I say goodnight,’” Douglas recalled.

He thought he’d “totally blown” his opportunity with Zeta-Jones. So Douglas sent roses and an apology on to the hotel in Scotland where she was staying the following evening.

It all worked out OK, in the end. The couple went on to marry in 2000 and later have two children. Their marriage has also survived a temporary split in 2013. Sometimes Hollywood can have real-life happy endings.
