Michael Hastings' Novel Will Be Published Summer 2014

Novel By Michael Hastings Being Published Posthumously

Michael Hastings had completed a novel based on his own life before he died in June, the New York Times reported on Thursday.

His novel, titled "The Last Magazine," has been acquired by Blue Rider Press and will be released next summer, according to the Times. Mirroring Hastings' own career, the book is centered on a young, eager journalist at a magazine during the lead-up to the Iraq War.

Hastings was killed in a tragic car accident in Los Angeles in June. The death of the 33-year-old journalist has been ruled an accident. He was perhaps best known for his Rolling Stone interview with General Stanley McChrystal, which led to McChrystal being relieved of his command.

Hastings had been working on the novel -- which only his wife Elise Jordan and a few others knew about -- for years, the publisher said. The Times reported that Jordan found a completed draft on his computer after he died.
