A Florida middle school teacher has lost his job and faces criminal charges after a very disturbing allegation.
Michael Louis Green, a physical education teacher in Jacksonville, allegedly punched a female middle-schooler in the face in August, reports Florida Times-Union.
Green was reportedly trying to remove a student who was cursing and shouting at another teacher from the gym when the altercation occurred, according to The Associated Press.
Green was fired without pay, according to the school board agenda, and arrested.
“You have to send a clear message that these are the exceptions of what happens in our schools on a day-to-day basis,” Duval County Superintendent Nikolai Vitti told the paper. “There has to be a clear zero-tolerance policy on hitting students.”
Also in August, a South Florida high school football coach was videotaped smacking his quarterback's helmet after the player botched an important play. The coach was suspended for two weeks from all athletic activities.
