Land-based sports don't come quite as easily for Michael Phelps.
The 18-time Olympic gold medalist joined the Baltimore Orioles at spring training in Sarasota, Fla. on Thursday and took some batting practice. According to Roch Kubatko of masnsports.com, Phelps didn't hit any homers, but he "launched a few balls deep into the outfield."
Phelps, a Baltimore-area native and avid Ravens and O's fan, was in town taping an episode of his new TV show “The Haney Project," in which golf coach Hank Haney teaches him the game, per Eduardo A. Encina of The Baltimore Sun.

"It was my first time taking BP, so it was a real cool experience, being able to do that with these guys, and especially after a remarkable season, and hopefully they have a good one coming up," Phelps said, via Kubatko. "Everyone was sitting here saying what I should be doing, so I just tried to listen to all of them a little bit. I wanted to hit one out, but we caught a couple that were close."
Wearing a No. 18 Orioles jersey (remember, 18 Olympic gold medals), Phelps and Haney also hung out with O's manager Buck Showalter.
Phelps, who The Sun noted didn't attend an Orioles game last season because he was "a little busy" competing at the London Olympics, even had a message for O's fans.
