Michael Smerconish is joining CNN to host a new weekly Saturday morning show, the network announced Monday.

The new host and New York Times bestselling author comes from MSNBC where he was a contributor for the past four years as well as a guest host on "Hardball with Chris Matthews." Smerconish also has a radio show that CNN said he will continue to host along with his new show.

Smerconish's arrival follows news earlier in January that John Berman and Michaela Pereira would become the new co-hosts of the 11 a.m. hour. A series of shakeups have hit the network following much restructuring in recent months. CNN chief Jeff Zucker announced in December that he had plans to bring more "attitude" to the network and less straight newscasts.

“We are thrilled to have Michael join CNN,” Zucker said. “At a time when the cable news landscape has become increasingly polarized, his independence and passion for reasoned dialogue makes him the perfect fit for CNN.”
