Michelle Obama: Sasha And Malia 'Want Nothing To Do With Us'

FLOTUS: Sasha And Malia 'Want Nothing To Do With Us'

First Lady Michelle Obama joined her erstwhile dancing partner Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show Thursday night to discuss, among other things, what it's like to raise tweens and teens in the White House.

It sounds like Sasha and Malia are a lot like many of their peers in one important respect: they want a little (or a lot of) space from their parents.

"You know, it's really interesting. My kids, they're 15 and 12, and they want nothing to do with us," Mrs. Obama said.

Of course, the presidential spotlight brings a set of issues most other teens can't even imagine. The bottom line: "They really want normalcy, and the White House isn't normal."

FLOTUS said she's doing what she can to help the girls keep a realistic perspective on life in the outside world, too -- because soon enough, they won't have all the trappings of their father's presidential office anyway.

One of the things that I've told my staff, I've told the Secret Service, is that when we're out of here, in a few years, they've got to be able to function as normal people. And so driving is a part of that. So we're going to have to figure that out. Ladies and gentlemen in D.C., watch out!

Of course, maybe Malia and Sasha just want some distance from their parents because dad likes to embarrass them by dancing to "Gangnam Style."
