On Monday, the Washington Post broke the news that first lady and well-known healthy living advocate Michelle Obama was spotted in Colorado -- indulging in a 1,500 calorie-plus meal at a Shake Shack.
On Tuesday, Atlantic senior editor Ta-Nehisi Coates called the piece "the dumbest story ever."
Here's a quick excerpt from the Washington Post piece:
A Washington Post journalist on the scene confirmed the first lady, who’s made a cause out of child nutrition, ordered a ShackBurger, fries, chocolate shake and a Diet Coke while the street and sidewalk in front of the usually-packed Shake Shack were closed by security during her visit.
Obama, of course, is a devoted campaigner against obesity and poor eating habits, evidenced by her spearheading the "Let's Move" campaign to "raise a healthier generation of kids." That reputation combined with her side of fries has generated a few murmurs of hypocrisy, even as nutritionists speaking with ABC News have come to the first lady's defense.
By the way, it's worth mentioning that the Washington Post ran a late correction on the story, noting: "The calorie-count for the first lady’s order was actually 1,700, not the 1,556 we originally reported. Our apologies."
So, here's the question: Is this the dumbest story ever? Vote in our poll and let us know what you think!
