In February, Michelle Williams gets to be Irish for a day. The Montana-born "My Week with Marilyn" star is set to be praised as an honorary Irishwoman at 2012's "Oscar Wilde: Honoring the Irish in Film" event.
Williams will be lauded for her "Marilyn" performance, which earned her a Golden Globe nomination as a reward for the amount of practice she put into it. "Michelle practiced the wiggle, she practiced the walk, balanced things on her head," Harvey Weinstein tells The Huffington Post. "She had all the physical movements right.
But why is Williams being recognized as an Irishwoman? Marilyn Monroe, Williams' current alter ego, may have a bit of Irish in her according to The Washing Post. "Her mother's last name was Hogan, the Irish word for young," the US-Irish Alliance explains. "The family line goes back to Kentucky and references can be found suggesting those ancestors were in the US at least as far back as the 1700s, with references to their forebears being from Ireland."
That being said, Williams' agent Hylda Queally is a true Irishwoman. So maybe this honor is well-deserved after all?
