Michelle Williams: Seeking New, Exciting Roles

Michelle Williams Talks Serious Decision, Seeking New Excitement

To see a Michelle Williams movie over the last half decade has consistently meant taking in a well-acted, harrowing drama that ends up with major awards buzz, if not actual nominations (Williams herself has received two Oscar nods).

Those are all good things -- "Brokeback Mountain," "Blue Valentine," and "Meek's Cutoff," among others have all been critically acclaimed -- but the dramatic turns haven't been part of any sort of big plan. In fact, there may be a new Michelle Williams on the way.

"It wasn't anything premeditated at all. I guess it was just what my subconscious was interested in exploring for the last couple of years," the actress told the Arizona Republic in a recent interview. "I've heard enough now in the past few months from people I respect, from friends and strangers on the street, saying like, could you do something not as harrowing? And actually, I think there's something to that - I'm interested myself in what else would excite me."

Perhaps she's already on the path to making those decisions; Williams recently signed on to play Glinda the Good Witch in "Oz: The Great and Powerful," Disney's star-studded prequel to "The Wizard of Oz."

That being said, don't expect her to take a big budget role just for the cash. It's a simple life that Williams most craves.

"I have a house. I have a car. My daughter goes to school," she said. "I can buy my friends birthday presents. I can go out to dinner from time to time. I read to my daughter from this book called 'Just Enough and Not Too Much.' It means something."
