Mike Fallon, GOP Candidate In Colorado CD-1, Granted 'On The Radar' Status By NRCC

The National Republican Congressional Committee has put Mike Fallon, GOP candidate in Colorado's Congressional District 1, 'On the Radar,' signalizing the party's belief that the traditionally Democratic district in Denver may be more competitive than expected.

Fallon, a Denver ER doctor, says he decided to enter the race after the passage of the health care reform legislation in March.

The NRCC created a system called 'Young Guns' to act as the candidate recruitment and training program for House Republicans. GOP candidates labeled 'Young Guns' will receive assistance from the powerful political organization, which currently shows roughly $26 million in the bank.

Candidates labeled 'On the Radar' are considered two steps below 'Young Guns,' and will not necessarily receive funding from the organization, the Denver Post reports.

The distinction does, however, provide valuable networking and recognition opportunities.

Incumbent Diana DeGette, who has represented the district since 1997, has never dipped below 66% in any of her reelection campaigns. The Cook Political Report still rates CD-1 a "Solid Democratic" district.
