According to the Heisman Trust, there are 870 media votes across the country that determine the winner of the most prestigious individual award in college football. But this year there will be at least one of them that won't be counted.
WFAN radio host Mike Francesa admitted on Thursday that he missed the deadline to submit his ballot. The polarizing "Sports Pope" cited confusion over the scheduling of the upcoming Army-Navy game as the reason his vote won't be counted.
“I did something this year, folks, that I have never done before in my life. I actually messed up the Heisman date and didn’t get my vote in," Francesa explained to his audience on Thursday. “What screwed me up was, I usually know it’s (the deadline) the Monday after the Army-Navy game; the Army-Navy game this week is later."

As the Daily News pointed out, the Army Navy has been played on the same Saturday as the Heisman ceremony during the past three seasons.
Earlier in the week, USA Today reported that the race for the 2012 Heisman Trophy could be "one of the closest in the award's 78-year history." In their final survey, Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel edged Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te'o by one point.
