On Wednesday morning, Miley Cyrus encouraged her followers to accept Donald Trump and his presidency.
The former “Hannah Montana” star, who’s been an avid supporter of both Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton, posted a heartfelt video message on Facebook following the election results. In the clip, Cyrus is visibly upset, crying and sniffling as she expresses her feelings.
“I still think that in her lifetime [Hillary Clinton] deserves to be the first female president and that’s what makes me so sad,” she says. “I just wish she had that opportunity because she’s fought for so long and because I believe her when she says she loves this country. This is all she’s ever done. She’s given her life to make it better.”
Cyrus continued to choke back tears as she said, “Happy Hippies, we adjust and accept everyone. And so Donald Trump, I accept you. And this hurts to say, but I even accept you as a president of the United States. And that’s fine. That’s fine, because I think now I want to be a hopeful hippie.”
Before turning off her camera, Cyrus urged everyone, Trump presumably included, to “please just treat people with love, treat people with compassion, treat people with respect, and I will do the same for you.”
Echoing her own sentiment, Cyrus posted a photo on Instagram with one of her dogs.
“If we want Donald Trump to accept us .... We must be accepting towards his presidency & his promise to ‘unify’ our country and ‘make America great,’” she wrote in the caption, adding, “WE must take a hammer to the bricks WE built up and be more LOVING and compassionate towards all living things! (including the planet) (p.s. Mr. Elected president..... Global warming IS real. ACCEPT THAT).”
