Mindy Kaling On Directing: 'Saddam Hussein Thought He Was A Good Manager, Too'

'Saddam Hussein Thought He Was A Good Manager Too'

In 2005, Mindy Kaling rose to fame as Kelly Kapoor on NBC's "The Office." She went on to write several episodes for the series, and eight years, later she's writing, producing and acting in her own Fox comedy.

Although Kaling had her doubts about managing a whole team on "The Mindy Project," she was surprised by how easily it came to her.

"When you're a writer and actor, you don't think the job of manager will come easily," Kaling told THR."I've been surprised how easily I could pick that up ... of course, that's my opinion. Saddam Hussein thought he was a good manager, too."

But according to her co-star Chris Messina (Danny), Kaling's managerial techniques are just a tad better than Hussein's were.

"Mindy has a real understanding of what she wants and expects from the show," Messina told The Huffington Post. "I love our scenes together and I love how our characters have grown."

Season 2 of "The Mindy Project" will air in the fall.
