As the star and writer of her own sitcom this fall, it may come as a bit of a surprise that Mindy Kaling wasn't always confident in her abilities.

In an interview with HitFix, Kaling -- who has written and starred on "The Office" since the start of the NBC series-- revealed how much of a struggle her first script was.

"I was terrified. The script was 40 pages long," she said. "[Writers] Mike Schur and BJ Novak turned in lean 32 page drafts that were tight with jokes. I had to learn how to use Final Draft. It was like Podunk They were just super intimidating. They were not the kind of guys that you would necessarily want to be like, 'Hey, can you help me format this?' You wouldn't want to do that."

“This year feels like the last chance to … make an artistic ending for the show," showrunner Greg Daniels told EW. "This will be the last season of 'The Office,' and we’re planning a big exciting last season. All questions will be answered this year. We’re going to see who’s behind the documentary.”

"The Mindy Project" debuts on Tues., Sept. 25 at 9:30 p.m. ET on Fox, while "The Office" debuts on Thurs., Sept. 20 at 9 p.m. ET on NBC.
