Minka Kelly To Play Jackie Kennedy? Lee Daniels Reveals His Casting Pick For 'The Butler'

Guess Who's Playing Jackie Kennedy

Clear eyes, full hearts, can't lose. That's apparently what director Lee Daniels was thinking when he cast "Friday Night Lights" star Minka Kelly as one of America's most beloved First Ladies.

According to Screen Daily, Lee Daniels has picked Kelly to play Jackie Kennedy in his upcoming movie "The Butler".

Daniels' film will center on the story of Eugene Allen (played by Forrest Whitaker), a White House butler who worked in eight different administrations. The all-star cast includes: Oprah Winfrey as Allen's wife, Matthew McConaughey as John F. Kennedy, John Cusack as Richard Nixon, Alan Rickman as Ronald Reagan and Jane Fonda as Nancy Reagan.

“I connected with it because it is ultimately a father son story with a civil rights backdrop," Daniels told Screen Daily. "In my lifetime there were separate water fountains, swimming pools and toilets for blacks. People forget that. This is such an exciting journey for me.”

Hopefully, the film is better received than Kelly's last project: ABC's ill-fated primetime "Charlie's Angles" reboot, which was canceled after four episodes.

"The Butler" is scheduled to begin shooting in July.
