Minnie Driver may have scored an Oscar nomination for her role in “Good Will Hunting,” but she never would’ve made it that far if one producer had their way.

During an interview with Andy Cohen on Wednesday’s episode of “Watch What Happens Live,” the actress revealed the rudest thing that anyone ever said to her and it had to deal with the famous 1997 film.

“The producer of ‘Good Will Hunting’ did not think I was hot enough to be in that film and did not want me in the film,” Driver said, adding that Matt Damon, Ben Affleck and director Gus Van Sant all “fought very hard for me to play that role and I’m grateful to them until this day.”

“Wow, and was that not the role you got the Oscar nomination for?” a surprised Andy Cohen asked. “Yeah, but not for being hot,” Driver said with a smile.

The actress’ comments echo the struggles of many women in Hollywood, who are often held to unrealistic standards of beauty and pressured to look a certain way. “Princess Diaries” actress Heather Matarazzo opened up about her struggle to fit into a specific Tinseltown mold after she lost a role because she apparently wasn’t “fuckable.”

“Even as I write this, I can still feel the pain, shame, and humiliation that came over me in that moment,” Matarazzo wrote in an essay earlier this year. “I didn’t know then just how damaging those words would be. Three words. ‘You’re not fuckable.’”

There’s no doubt it’s beyond difficult to be an actress in Hollywood.
