"Moments Matter" by Dave Sanderson

My wife and I got to the theatre early that day. Since we spend a lot of our time working our businesses from home, we were both ready for a little extra curricular activity.

And, with the release of a movie that had already captured our attention and touched our heart, it seemed like the perfect date activity.

The movie was Sully and from the moment the feature film started, we were hooked!

Tom Hanks does an incredible job playing the part of Captain Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger and if you’re not familiar with the storyline, the movie recounts the events leading up to and including the forced water landing of US Airways flight 1549, aka “Miracle on the Hudson”.

The last words from the captain - “Brace for Impact!”

Not only was it a gripping real-life story that was wonderfully portrayed, Pei and I had a personal interest in the movie; one of our podcast guests, Dave Sanderson, braved the frigid waters of the bone-chilling river and helped ensure that everyone made it safely off the plane. He was the last passenger off.

That, in my book, is a true American hero!

Create your own Miracle

We don’t need a near-disaster or extreme conditions to be a hero. We have the opportunity, every day, to clear a path, so that others can make their way from a dangerous or shaky situation, to a place of warmth, acceptance, and safety.

Who can you be a hero to; a child, a neighbor, a spouse, a loved one, complete strangers, like Dave did?

Your actions do matter. And, while actions under pressure may get the press and the publicity, selflessness in everyday actions, is the difference you can make today.

In the spirit of Thanksgiving and the holidays, who can you impact today and how would you do it - Give them a meal, teach them a skill, offer them a ride, share a story, or listen to theirs.

We are blessed to be a blessing. Don’t let the opportunity to do good, pass you by.
