The country singer released a new song, “Vice,” on Monday, and it’s already hit No. 1 on the iTunes chart. Lambert took to Instagram to share a note about the single’s success, saying that her new music will reflect the “heartache and healing” she’s been dealing with since announcing her split from Blake Shelton last summer.
“The last year of my life has been one of heartache and healing, ... Of learning to be honest .... Accepting the flaws and celebrating the smiles. Finding peace in dark places ... having some moments alone with me. Facing fears and feelings... All of them,” she captioned a photo of “Vice” at the top of iTunes. “I got to know my guitars ... became friends with a pencil and paper ... Used melodies to lead me places I had never been ... Made music with my friends. Because music is medicine. This means the world to me. Thank you for joining me on this journey. #vice #musicismedicine.”
Lambert opened up about “Vice” in a video posted to her Twitter Monday.
“This song is just as honest as you can get about emotions and letting raw emotions just live where they live until you move on to a happier place,” the 32-year-old said.
With lyrics like, “Another vice, another call, another bed I shouldn’t crawl out of / At 7 a.m., with shoes in my hand, said I wouldn’t do it, but I did it again / And I know I’ll be back tomorrow night,” the song is a deep turn for Lambert after the release of her hit album “Platinum” in 2014.
Lambert and Shelton dated for five years before tying the knot in May 2011. They announced their split in July 2015 and, shortly after, Shelton began dating his “Voice” co-star Gwen Stefani. Lambert is now dating fellow country singer Anderson East.
