112 beautiful women from around the globe will gather in Johannesburg, South Africa this Saturday for the 2009 Miss World pageant. The contest will be broadcast live to an estimated one billion people.

The U.S will be represented by Lisa-Marie Kohrs, a broadcast journalism major at Pepperdine University. You can see profiles of all 112 finalists here. Miss World 2008, Ksenia Sukhinova of Russia, will be there to hand over her crown.

The road to the finals for the 112 hopefuls was marked by visits to some of the country's top holiday spots and preliminary mini-contests, which secured the winners a place in the semi-finals.

Eruza Sasaki from Japan, Perla Beltran Acosta from Mexico and Mariatu Kargbo from Sierra Leone are some of the contestants who came tops in the early events.

The event will be hosted by Chinese TV presenter Angela Chow, South African former beauty queen Michelle McLean, and Miss World official Steve Douglas.
