'Mission Accomplished' Banner May Be Unfurled At Bush Library

One of the most enduring symbols of George W. Bush's presidency may soon have a prominent new home.

USA Today reports that the "Mission Accomplished" streamer, which was displayed during a speech in 2003 aboard the USS Lincoln and came to encapsulate the Bush Adminisration's premature announcement of success in Iraq, has been shipped to the future site of George W. Bush's presidential library, and may even be rolled out as an exhibit when the facility opens its doors in 2013.

According to the USA Today piece:

A design firm is sifting through thousands of documents, photos and artifacts to determine items that will be put on permanent display, Lowe said. The library will be dedicated to telling the story of the Bush administration, according to a news release. "Key events and critical decisions will be examined in engaging, interactive exhibits," it said.

While no final decisions have been made, Bush recently admitted that he didn't see the incident as a crowning moment in his presidency.

"No question it was a mistake," Bush told Matt Lauer of the scene in an interview earlier this month.
