Mister Rogers Can Still Make Us Feel Better, Even 12 Years After His Death

You'll Miss Mister Rogers Even More When You Hear His Loving Message

Mister Rogers can still make us feel better.

On the 12th anniversary of Fred Rogers' death Friday, the Fred Rogers Company posted a poignant video message from the "Mister Rogers' Neighborhood" host.

In the clip, Rogers sits at a piano and addresses all of his neighbors, young and old. He talks about the importance of expressing feelings, how proud he is of all of us, and finally, he utters words many of us want to hear: "I would like to tell you what I often told you when you were much younger: I like you just the way you are."

According to the website, PBS originally aired the segment a year after the 9/11 attacks and just months before Rogers passed away from stomach cancer at age 74. (His landmark children's show aired its final episode in August 2001.)

Then, as now, his words soothe and reassure. Thanks, Mister Rogers.
