Mitch Daniels Endorses Mitt Romney For President

Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels (R) endorsed Mitt Romney for president Wednesday on Fox News.

"Well, it must be a slow news day if this has made the air, Brian, but for what it's worth, I did send a congratulatory note to Governor Romney the other day and offered to do anything I could to help him. And here I am," he said to host Brian Kilmeade.

Asked about Romney's reaction, Daniels said, "I guess he's pleased, he's already won our nomination ... I'm just happy to sign on and help him."

When asked if he woud be vice president, he demurred. "It won't happen so we won't take the audience's time with it."

Romney said in a statement he was "honored" to have Daniels' support and looks "forward to working with him to fix our economy and get our country on the right track."

Many inside the Republican party had urged Daniels to run for president, but he ultimately declined to run in May 2011. Even after he announced he wouldn't run, some conservatives, notably Bill Kristol of the Weekly Standard, floated Daniels as a possible candidate.

Speaker of the House John Boehner (R-Ohio) and House Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) endorsed Romney Tuesday.
