As Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney tours the nation in a campaign bus, progressive activists will be tailing him in a car with a fake dog strapped to the roof. At least, that's the plan according to an online video released Friday by MoveOn.org.
Romney kicked off a bus tour Friday of six states in an effort to win the support of small town folks. MoveOn.org's video says the group will be close behind, mocking Romney with an "Every Millionaire Counts Tour."
"Traveling with us, of course, is our favorite dog, Seamus II," says a young lady holding a champagne glass. Then the camera reveals a stuffed dog strapped to the roof of the vehicle. "How's the weather up there?"
Animal lovers have protested Romney ever since the Boston Globe reported in 2007 that back in the early 1980s, the Romneys embarked on a 12-hour drive with the family dog, Seamus, in a crate fastened to the top of their station wagon. Though Romney has repeatedly insisted the dog loved traveling on the car roof, he said he wouldn't do it again because of "the attention it's received."
In February, a "Dogs Against Romney" activist who mocked Romney by putting a stuffed dog on his car was pulled over by Colorado police for suspected animal abuse.
