Mitt Romney Will Not 'Repudiate' Donald Trump For Birther Views

Romney Won't 'Repudiate' Trump

Mitt Romney will not 'repudiate' Donald Trump, even as the billionaire has resumed his public flirtations with "birtherism," according to the AP.

Romney told reporters Monday:

You know, I don't agree with all the people who support me and my guess is they don't all agree with everything I believe in. But I need to get 50.1 percent or more and I'm appreciative to have the help of a lot of good people.

After seizing the national spotlight last spring with his persistent suggestions that Barack Obama might not have been born in America -- a media blitz that culminated with President Obama releasing a copy of his long-form birth certificate -- Trump reaffirmed his suspicions in an interview last week.

The Romney campaign subsequently tried to create distance from Trump's remarks. However, then as now, it stopped short of reprimanding or breaking off ties with the billionaire, with whom Romney is campaigning.
