'Mob City' Premiere: Jon Bernthal Does Noir Proud

After his controversial exit from "The Walking Dead," Frank Darabont is back with his latest project -- and he's brought along a familiar face. Jon Bernthal -- who lived and died as Shane on "Dead" -- takes center stage as a cop in the 1940s who has a strong moral center in a very corrupt world on the new limited-run series.

The Hollywood Reporter's Tim Goodman said Jon Bernthal was born to be a noir star, adding that "If you get through the first two hours, you’re going to ride Mob City until the end." The series will continue in two-hour blocks for the next two weeks, so it's definitely a short commitment.

The LA Times' Robert Lloyd notes that "Mob City" seems to be more inspired by gangster movies than real history, but the pilot nevertheess adds color to an old genre. That said, though, this show would probably look killer in black-and-white.

"Mob City" continues on Wednesday nights at 9 p.m. EST on TNT.
