More New Yorkers Support Gay Marriage Than Ever Before: Poll

How Do New Yorkers REALLY Feel About Gay Marriage?

It's not just the state's new Governor who's gung ho for gay marriage.

According to a new poll by Quinnipiac, 56 percent of New Yorkers favor gay marriage. That's the highest number ever reported, up five percentage points from two years ago.

Only 37 percent of New Yorkers remained opposed and the rest were undecided.

A bill to make gay marriage legal in the Empire State was defeated in December of 2009, despite the support of then governor David Paterson.

The task of making gay marriage a reality in New York may be tougher this year because Republicans, who typically oppose this type of legislation, now control the State Senate.

Even so, the poll could provide solace for gay rights advocates, since it would appear New Yorkers are warming up to the idea of same-sex weddings.
