Morgan Freeman’s Step-Granddaughter Fatally Stabbed In NY

"Her friends and family were fortunate enough to have known what she meant as a person."

Morgan Freeman's 33-year-old step-granddaughter, E'Dena Hines, was fatally stabbed early Sunday in the Washington Heights neighborhood of New York, multiple sources confirm.

A 30-year-old man was arrested at the scene and brought to Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center for a mental evaluation, but he has not been charged, The New York Daily News reported.

Police reportedly responded to a call around 3:00 a.m. and found Hines in the street with multiple stab wounds. She was taken to Harlem Hospital and later pronounced dead. The investigation is ongoing.

Freeman released a statement to Gossip Cop

The world will never know her artistry in talent, and how much she had to offer. Her friends and family were fortunate enough to have known what she meant as a person. Her star will continue to shine bright in our hearts, thoughts and prayers. May she rest in peace.

UPDATE: In a post on Facebook, Freeman expressed his gratitude for all the support his family has received during this tragedy:

I want to acknowledge the tremendous outpouring of love and support my family has received regarding the tragic and senseless passing of my granddaughter Edena Hines. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. -M
