New 'Mortal Kombat' Teaser Is So Violent, It's Hard To Watch

If you can stomach brutal fight scenes, then you'll love this video. If not, we suggest you look away.

On Monday, NetherRealm Studios announced the upcoming “Mortal Kombat X” by releasing an intense trailer featuring a characteristically hyper-violent duel between fan-favorite fighters Sub Zero and Scorpion.

The rumor mill has been buzzing about the game, which IGN notes is slated for a 2015 release, since the success of the franchise's reboot back in 2011.

While the trailer is likely to drum up at least some excitement for the new game, Polygon’s Ben Kuchera took issue with the vague nature of the footage in the teaser.

“The trailer doesn’t look like in-game footage to me, and the pre-rendered scene only tells us that two characters we knew would be in the game are in the game. The video content shows off graphical details and tricks like the breaking bones and bruised organs that were in the last Mortal Kombat game,” he writes. “If the challenge was to interest me in the next game in the series, or to show off what that game will provide or how it will look? The trailer completely falls flat.”

Despite NetherRealm Studios being tight-lipped about the project, other than what is shown in the trailer (and that ain't much), GamingBolt noticed an Amazon U.K. listing that said the game will be available on both previous and next-generation Xbox and PlayStation consoles. This has caused some to worry that the game's features will be watered down to accommodate Xbox 360 and PS3 players.
