Moussa Koussa, Libyan Foreign Minister, Questioned By Scottish Police Over Lockerbie

Libyan Minister Who Defected Question Over Lockerbie Bombing

LONDON (Reuters) - Scottish police interviewed defecting Libyan foreign minister Moussa Koussa on Thursday over the 1988 Lockerbie bombing, Scottish prosecutors said.

U.S and Scottish authorities hope Koussa, Libya's former spy chief, will provide vital military and diplomatic intelligence on the bombing of Pan Am flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland.

"We can confirm that officers of Dumfries and Galloway Constabulary... today met Mr Moussa Koussa in relation to the ongoing investigation into the Lockerbie bombing," a spokesman for the Crown Office said.

Koussa was a close Gaddafi adviser since the 1970s and is believed to have played a key role in the release of the only person convicted for the bombing, which killed 259 people on the plane and 11 on the ground.

Libyan Abdel Basset al-Megrahi was allowed to return home in 2009 because he was judged to be terminally ill with cancer.

Scottish authorities had said Megrahi, who is still alive, had three months to live.
