Of course, moving can be a financial burden, but you've got to go for it in a new city. Make it a fresh, new start all the way around! And remember, sometimes you get what you pay for, and this is not a time or place to get lousy results. You want to look and feel great.

Big move to a new city? Cool! But it's time to find a new stylist -- a frightening prospect. Below are some great tips to help ease the pain.

First tip: Get one last appointment with your longtime stylist for a cut and color just before you leave. This will give you four to six weeks before you need another appointment. Also, ask for your hair color formula to share with your new stylist. Then, as soon as you touch ground in your new home, begin the search. Don't hesitate.

Other tips for finding that all-important professional:

•Keep your eyes open wherever you go for hairstyles that you love. Then ask, "Who does your hair?" Google for a phone number and make an appointment.

•Don't settle for a stylist you don't like. Get the right professional behind your chair. Ask for a short consultation, look for that "chemistry" in addition to talent and skill.

•Ask a great stylist for a referral. The best ones, understandably, may not have room for new clients. Ask them for a recommendation. Lots of stylists are more than happy to suggest a colleague.

•Arrive at your consultation with clear descriptions and pictures of what you want. The stylist may light up with anticipation or point you to someone who will. A picture is worth a thousand words, so bookmark some favorite photos on your phone.

•A stylist may be truly gifted, but if the salon is too loud, the drama is withering or the playlist stinks, you may want to look elsewhere. Don't be afraid to keep looking.

•If cost is a concern, don't be shy about asking for prices. Don't risk a surprise you can't afford. Even an inexpensive trip to the salon is a substantial investment in time and money. Be tenacious. Enlist some patience. Get what you want.

I said you should start your search as soon as possible in your new town because this could take a while. The best stylists will probably be booked. You'll still find someone great but you may need to go with someone who has lots of talent but a bit less experience.

As always, be open to change!
